Introducing the Doctor
- Head of the department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery of the University Hospital of Verona, Italy.
- Chair of Postgraduate School in Otolaryngology – University of Verona (Italy).
- Full Professor of of Otolaringology, University of Verona.
During his career he performed over 10.000 surgical procedures, most of them with a high degree of complexity. These interventions were carried out with innovative surgical techniques. They involved middle and inner ear lesions, anterior and lateral skull base pathology and head & neck cancer disease. The high number of endoscopic procedures he performed, with particular reference to the middle and inner ear and to the lateral skull base is worthy of notice. The number of such operations represents one of the world major case series in that specific field.
He is a founding member of the IWGEES (International Working Group for Endoscopic Surgery Ear) and he collaborates with leading international hospitals and Universities. Teaming up with Professor Presutti he performed the first transcanalar endoscopic approaches for the treatment of ear cholesteatoma in Italy.
Thanks to several years of study and numerous anatomical dissections Professor Marchioni, along with Professor Presutti, encoded a transpromontorial minimally invasive approach for the treatment of acoustic neuromas localized at the level of the internal auditory canal. Moreover, he described the first totally endoscopic approaches for the treatment of facial nerve tumors.
In addition, he published the first international book on the endoscopic treatment of middle and inner ear diseases, of acoustic neuromas and of lateral skull base lesions. He is teacher and faculty member of several international centers and he holds workshops in many countries in order to spread the endoscopic technique for ear and lateral skull base surgery.
